Discomfort Is a Chrysalis
We are living in a time of change. The changes are reflected in our personal and collective realities and our own identities. This summer has been a season of change. And change stretches us beyond our comfort, into discomfort and into our growth.
On Path
Discomfort is not a sign you are off path. It is a sign you are on path.
It is a sign you are growing beyond the edges of your predictable reality — beyond what you have come to know and expect. For it is in the moments of discomfort that we fully meet ourselves. You become more present, more attuned, more intentional.
Discomfort Is a Chrysalis
The discomfort of our reality has to become so unbearable that the only choice we have is to change.
Discomfort invites us to change — to rearrange the way we've been living, doing, and thinking.
Think of what happens in nature when discomfort arises:
Pearls are formed through an irritant in the oyster shell. Diamonds are forged under pressure.
These unfathomable conditions create pearls and diamonds. So how would you show up, knowing that the conditions you are navigating are actually designed to refine and polish you?
The Intention: Growth-Inducing
Most of us have lived our lives in avoidance of discomfort. We were conditioned to believe that discomfort is unfavorable, a sign that we are off path. This belief is misleading.
We are being given an opportunity to sit with the discomfort and grow. Not in spite of it. Because of it.
Resistance, Fear, Discomfort
Resistance, fear, and discomfort are all similar faces of the same core emotion, triggered by uncertainty.
Our minds will try to convince us that it is unsafe, that we must return to what we've known — to our old identity, our past reality. The voice of fear is strong and convincing. But when you recognize it, you can overcome it, and remember that just because it is the loudest voice doesn't mean it is the truest.
The Discomfort of Change
When you decide to change and invest in your health, you will navigate a season of discomfort and unfamiliarity. All that you once knew and believed changes as you re-pattern your body and rewire your mind. This discomfort feels like chaos. It can create uncertainty, doubt, fear. But having navigated it for myself, I know precisely why it arises.
Change is hard at first because you are having to rewire your mind and your patterning, to reinvent the way you once nourished your body. You have to unlearn the conditioning and the false information that circulates. But in the end, it is those changes you made — one step at a time — that compound and set you up for a lifetime of health and potential.
Reframing Discomfort
When stepping into the new, we step into uncertainty, into the unknown. And that alone conjures a myriad of emotion, discomfort, and feeling.
But just because something conjures discomfort doesn't mean that it is bad. It often means we are growing.
Hold the vision and have faith.
It is happening.
