Blood Draws: What You Need to Know for Your Health and Healing
In February of 2024, my mama was hospitalized and nearly lost her life. She’s been living with chronic illness for years, navigating multiple autoimmune diagnoses and unexplained symptoms. During her hospitalization, I witnessed countless blood draws — vial after vial, day after day. It was through that experience that I realized something we all need to understand for the sake of our health and future.
Your Blood and Your Immune System
A majority of your immune system resides in your blood.
It’s your body’s defense — your lifeline — containing the white blood cells, antibodies, and nutrients that protect you against pathogens and toxins. Every time blood is drawn, it has an impact on the strength of your immune system. For someone who is healthy, this impact may be minor. But for those living with chronic illness, autoimmune conditions, or mystery symptoms, repeated blood draws can make the difference between healing and depletion — between recovery and decline. When the body is already fighting to heal, losing blood means losing precious immune resources.
And in many cases, more blood is drawn than is truly needed.
When “Normal” Tests Don’t Match How You Feel
So many people are dismissed in the medical system because their test results come back “normal.”
I’ve witnessed it countless times — as a practitioner and as an advocate for my mama. People are told their labs look fine, but they don’t feel fine. They’re left confused, invalidated, and disconnected from their body’s truth. This is one of the most painful forms of gaslighting in modern medicine.
Because the truth is — most chronic and neurological illnesses are not detectable through standard bloodwork. And yet, the more unwell someone becomes, the more frequently blood is drawn to “search for answers.” It becomes a vicious cycle: more testing, more depletion, less vitality.
Bloodwork and Chronic Illness
Blood draws are often seen as harmless, but for those already weakened by chronic illness, they can be profoundly depleting. Each draw extracts not just blood — but the immune cells, minerals, and life force that the body needs to heal. Neurological symptoms, for instance, are some of the hardest to detect with testing. This often leads to repeated blood draws — each one leaving the body more drained.
The irony?
The sicker someone becomes, the more often their blood is taken.
And the truth is — they don’t actually need a full vial for most tests.
Much of that blood is discarded.
The Hidden Cost of Frequent Blood Draws
We’ve been told that blood replenishes quickly. But that’s not entirely true. It takes weeks — sometimes months — for the body to fully rebuild healthy blood. For those who are already low in minerals or struggling with liver sluggishness, that process takes even longer. By the time the body recovers, it’s often time for another blood draw — and the cycle of depletion continues. Over time, this can weaken the immune system, accelerate aging, and leave the body more vulnerable to fatigue, infection, and imbalance.
Iatrogenic Illness and Blood Draws
“Irresponsible blood draws have led to millions of premature deaths.” —Anthony William
It’s a confronting truth, but one that deserves to be spoken. Most of the blood drawn is unnecessary — and much of it is simply discarded. This raises deeper questions:
Why are we taking so much blood from people who are already unwell?
What are we doing with all that excess blood?
And why aren’t we prioritizing recovery and replenishment afterward?
If you’ve ever felt unusually tired or depleted after a blood draw, your body is communicating that it’s been weakened.
How to Advocate for Yourself (or a Loved One)
If you or someone you love is experiencing chronic illness, you have the right to advocate for gentler testing practices.
🌿 Ask that they draw only ¼ to ½ vial instead of a full one.
🌿 Request that no more than 3 full vials be taken at a time.
🌿 Ask for longer intervals between tests, whenever possible.
Your voice matters. You deserve care that protects your energy and immune system.
How to Support and Rebuild After a Blood Draw
Healing begins with replenishment.
The goal is to rehydrate, remineralize, and rebuild the blood naturally.
Before and after a blood draw:
🥬 Drink 16–32 ounces of fresh Celery Juice daily.
🍋 Drink 2 x 32-ounce glasses of Lemon Water daily.
🥥 Drink 20–40 ounces of pure Coconut Water daily.
🍈 Eat ½ of a melon daily for deep hydration.
🥣 Enjoy Medical Medium Spinach Soup to rebuild blood strength.
These foods restore the body’s electrolytes, minerals, and natural vitality.
Final Thoughts: Awareness is Empowerment
Blood draws are often seen as routine — but for many, they carry hidden costs. Your blood is sacred.
It’s not just fluid — it’s your life force, your immune system, your energy.
Be mindful. Ask questions. Advocate for less-invasive testing whenever possible.
And above all — nourish your body before and after.
Awareness is empowerment.
The more we understand, the more we can protect our health and reclaim our strength.
